Children’s SRP 2021 Roll a Story Submissions

Lions and mermaids and fairies, oh my! Take a look at these twelve awesome stories written by kids who participated in our Roll a Story take-home program. Armed with a six-sided di and a story prompt sheet, participants rolled the dice to determine what animal/creature, setting, emotion, prop(s), and general plot to incorporate into their stories. Then they let their creativity shine!

Thank you to all of the young authors who submitted their tales of adventure, mayhem, and dessert for everyone to enjoy!

Digitize Your Memories @ The Library

Do you have old VHS tapes at home that you can no longer view? Maybe some 3.5 inch floppy discs but your computer no longer has a floppy drive? Perhaps boxes full of photo slides with nary a slide projector in sight? People are finding it harder and harder to preserve and share their family memories due to constantly shifting media technology and modern devices that can’t access the older formats. But Tennessee Tech University, the Cookeville History Museum, and your Putnam County Library are here to help you digitize your memories! The week of April 23rd-28th we will be hosting a Memory Lab at the Putnam County Library with staff and equipment capable of scanning and copying a vast multitude of physical formats and providing you with digital files.      Continue reading

Summer Reading Programs for the Week of June 5, 2017

Lunch at the Putnam County Library

Learning and good nutrition doesn’t end when school lets out! The Putnam County Library is offering free meals for anyone between the ages of 0 and 18 every Monday, Thursday, and Friday at 11 a.m. during the months of June and July as part of our Summer Reading Program.

This program helps provide nutritious meals to children so they are better fueled with healthy food to learn and grow. As a requirement of participation, food must be consumed on site. This program is done in partnership with the Putnam County School System and made possible by the TN Department of Human Services through the USDA Summer Meals Program.

Putnam County Library Summer Reading Events

The Children’s Library will host Family Creative Learning Workshops this Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5-7 p.m. Using PBS KIDS ScratchJr, kids can create their own interactive stories and games featuring their favorite characters from Wild Kratts, Nature Cat, WordGirl and Peg + Cat! The storytelling possibilities are endless with this creative coding app. This program is appropriate for children ages 5-8. Family participation encouraged.

Join us this Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. as the Science Guys show kids how science builds a better world! Kids will use pulleys, defy gravity, have a tug-o-war, and launch a catapult! This program is recommended for ages five and up. This program will be adapted for a teen audience on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Everyone’s favorite teen summer reading tradition is back! Meet at CyberTag this Thursday from 1-2 p.m. for some team-building fun. This event is free and open to ages 12-17. CyberTag is located at 41 South Cedar Ave, Cookeville, TN 38501.
