As part of our Summer Reading Program, Build a Better World, the Putnam County Library would like to invite children of all ages to join us this Tuesday, July 11 at 10 a.m. as we work on Creating Our Community.
This program will introduce children to local landmarks and discuss the idea of community. It will begin with a community themed story time by children’s librarian, Chelsea Gifford.
Everyone will then work with art education teacher Breanna Kincaid to create a collaborative artwork of our town buildings and special places. They will also have the opportunity to create a take home painting to remind them that they are a small part of something bigger. We will be using acrylic paint on canvas, so please dress appropriately!
Through this program, we hope to encourage social interaction, tactile learning, idea sharing, and the use of various resources to create a lasting work of art that represents this wonderful community of which we are a part.
In addition to a take home piece of art, each child will also be able to take home a book to keep. We believe that every child should have access to books in the home. Our hope is that by providing children with a fun, educational hands-on program and a book that they can take home, we will nurture a generation of lifelong learners.
The collaborative paintings will be displayed in the lobby of the Putnam County Library from July 17 – September 15.
This program was made possible by the generous support of the Cookeville Junior Women’s Club.
