Children’s SRP Programs: Week of 5/31

Here’s a look at what’s happening at the Children’s Library both in person and virtually this week as part of our Summer Reading Program!

In-Person

Roll a Story Activity: Visit the Children’s Library to pick up a Roll a Story Activity Kit featuring a six-sided di and a story prompt sheet. If you submit your story at the Children’s Library front desk, we’ll publish it on the PCL WordPress page!

A-Z Animal Craft: Visit the Children’s Library to receive an A-Z Animal Craft sheet featuring a random letter of the alphabet. Then draw and color an animal that’s name begins with the letter on your sheet (antelope for A, blobfish for B, etc.). If you turn in your artwork at the Children’s Library front desk, we’ll proudly display it on our walls!

Animal Feed Trail Mix Snack Kit: Visit the Children’s Library to pick up a snack kit containing all the ingredients you need for Animal Feed Trail Mix! Gluten-free options are available. Ingredients include pretzel sticks, Cheerios, Milk Chocolate M&M’s (which may contain nuts), and animal crackers or bunny crackers.

Kitty Craft Kit: Visit the Children’s Library to pick up a Kitty Craft Kit with all the supplies and instructions you need to make multiple types of cat toys! Make them for your own cat, or donate them to the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter by bringing them to any branch of the Putnam County Library System or directly to the animal shelter. Each kit also includes a white bandana that can be decorated for and donated to the dogs available for adoption at the shelter.

Virtual

Between the Pages (Tuesday, 6/1): Children’s author Alane Adams’ Between the Pages educational video series teaches children how to write great stories using fun videos and activity guides for all ages. This week’s episode will be posted on the PCL WordPress and Facebook pages and remain available on demand afterward.

Episode Description: “Part One: Meet Alane” introduces viewers to the overall theme of the video series, asking them to think about what a book actually is. It explains how Alane became an author and prompts students to consider the first steps an author takes before writing.

Science Guys (rescheduled to Wednesday, 6/2): This interactive virtual science show by Mr. Bond’s Science Guys includes crowd-favorite experiments you’ll love to try at home! It will be posted on the PCL Facebook page and will be available for two weeks after its premiere.

Animal Tails Storytime for PreK-2nd grade (Wednesday, 6/2): Watch Zoo Atlanta’s storybook reading of The Salamander Room and follow their activity guide to build your own salamander habitat-themed sensory bin. The video and guide will be posted on the PCL WordPress and Facebook pages.

Animal Tails Storytime for K-5th grade (Thursday, 6/3): Watch Zoo Atlanta’s storybook reading of Giraffes Can’t Dance and explore with your child the difference between producers and consumers. The video and guide will be posted on the PCL WordPress and Facebook pages.

Learn about day-to-day life on the farm as you meet goats, pigs, dogs, and more! This video will be posted on the PCL YouTube page and will remain available afterward.

LEGO Challenge: Complete this week’s LEGO challenge and share a picture of your creation for inclusion in our online gallery! This week’s theme is Furry Friends: Use whatever LEGOs you have available to create any animal with fur! All picture submissions are due by Sunday, 6/6.
